Porsche’s new Panamera E-Hybrid model starts pre-sale in China
On March 27th, Porsche launched the new Panamera E-Hybrid model for pre-sale in China. The new car has a pure electric range of up to 96 kilometers (WLTP city conditions). There are currently five Panamera E-Hybrid models in different power and body forms available in the Chinese market, with the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (including VAT) starting from 1,288,000 yuan.
The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is highly efficient and versatile. Porsche combines the new E-Hybrid powertrain with a vastly improved 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo petrol engine (224 kW/304 PS), resulting in powerful acceleration. The system has a power output of 346kW (470PS), a maximum torque of 650Nm, and accelerates from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 280km/h. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has an all-electric range of up to 96 km (WLTP urban conditions).
The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid places greater emphasis on driving dynamics and sustained power output over the high revs range. Its 2.9-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder delivers 260 kW (353 PS). The system delivers 400 kW (544 PS) and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. This enables the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 290km/h.
Compared to the previous generation, the all-new Panamera E-Hybrid model has achieved total excellence in terms of electric range, charging speed, throttle response and drivability. The new high-voltage battery has a total capacity of 25.9 kWh, which increases the battery capacity in the same space by about 45%. At the same time, the new 11 kW on-board AC charger can reduce the charging time to 2 hours and 39 minutes. With 140 kW (190 PS) power and 450 Nm of torque, the new electric motor provides significantly more power than the previous generation. It is also integrated into the housing in an efficient and weight-optimized way, and is integrated into the oil cooling cycle of the Porsche Dual Clutch Drive (PDK). The internal rotor design (the rotor rotates inside the stator) reduces mass inertia by 50%, resulting in an improved throttle response speed. With up to 88 kW of energy recovery, the motor power is significantly increased, which also contributes to a significant increase in the electric range of the Panamera E-Hybrid model.
Four optimized E-Hybrid dedicated driving modes and improved "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes further optimize the efficiency of the E-Hybrid model. The vehicle is always started in pure electric E-Power mode. Once the battery level drops below a certain minimum, the system automatically switches to "Hybrid Auto" mode to adjust the working strategy according to the driving situation. In addition, through the active path navigation of "Hybrid Auto" mode, the route ahead can be understood, which can further optimize the working strategy. In this way, the proportion of electric driving distance in urban transportation can be maximized and the efficiency can be improved. To achieve this, the system uses both car data and navigation data.
In "E-Hold" (power hold) mode, the current state of charge of the battery can be maintained. On the other hand, in "E-Charge" (on-board charging) mode, the internal combustion engine charges the battery to more than 80% when driving outside urban areas, and the speed exceeds 55 km/h, while the Panamera takes advantage of the efficiency of hybrid drive in urban traffic. In "Sport", "Sport Plus" (sports upgrade) mode, Porsche reduces the target state of charge of the battery to 20% and 30% respectively (previously 30% and 80% respectively). This allows for increased efficiency without sacrificing performance.
The all-new Porsche Panamera models come standard with an adaptive two-chamber technology air suspension system (standard in China to be announced), including the Porsche Active Suspension Management System (PASM) with dual-valve shock absorbers. E-Hybrid models can also be optionally fitted with the innovative Porsche Active Ride system active suspension. This system optimizes traction, improves cornering performance and achieves a high degree of comfort. Each dual-valve technology shock absorber features an electro-hydraulic pump powered by a 400 V system that actively reserves power in the direction of rebound and compression. As a result, the suspension system can almost completely absorb body bumps caused by uneven road surfaces and keep the vehicle level at all times during dynamic driving manoeuvres. The shock absorber operates at a frequency of up to 13 Hz, which means that the shock absorber can be adjusted up to 13 times per second to respond quickly to the driving situation and the road surface. The technology also enables a number of innovative features, such as over-compensation for pitch and roll movements and elevation of the body when getting on and off.
The all-new Panamera model design is sporty and refreshing. At the front of the body, the new LED headlights with matrix beams of light and the new horizontal air intake are very distinctive. At the rear of the sports car, the through taillight group and frameless rear window make the new Panamera unique. Silver window trim makes the side window lines more eye-catching.
The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid comes standard with 19-inch wheels, black brake calipers and LED headlights with matrix beam of light (standard in China to be announced). An innovative high-resolution LED lighting system with matrix beam of light is available as an optional accessory. The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid is specially equipped with 20-inch Panamera AeroDesign wheels, silver sports exhaust pipes and red brake calipers. Lime and black brake calipers are also available. The front axle brakes of the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid come standard with 10-piston brake calipers (standard in China to be announced). In addition, models with 21-inch wheels can also be equipped with an optional Porsche ceramic composite braking system. The front axle ceramic composite brake disc measures 440 mm and the rear axle is 410 mm. (Source: Porsche)
